June 12th, 2008 - Night of Laughter
A Big Thank You to everyone who participated in, and attended, the Night of Laughter, it was a huge success.

December 17th - International School of Excellence Christmas Performance
The Calgary Dream Centre was pleased to welcome the International School of Excellence on December 17th, 2007. The residents were treated to a melody of Christmas carols and cheer. A wonderful time was had by all.

December 15th - Resident Christmas Celebration
The Calgary Dream Centre along with 127 residents and over 200 community guests celebrated Christmas in grand style this year on December 15th with their annual Light up A Dream Christmas Gala. Residents were treated with gifts, a delicious festive feast and music by Dennis Grady and the Stone Rejected Band and Ken Bombay on the piano. Thank you to all who helped make this evening memorable.

November 25th - Christmas Decorating
On November 25th, 40 volunteers from Southwinds Church in Arbour Lake set up Christmas trees, decorated Christmas cards and baked gingerbread cookies for our residents. It was an extra special event as residents and volunteers worked together to make this Christmas a memorable one.

November 13th - Graduation
On November 13, 2007 the Calgary Dream Centre celebrated the graduation of 13 individuals from the resident A program. Congratulations to all of our new graduates!

My first thoughts when reflecting on what was accomplished in Calgary Dream Centre for 2007 was to gather familiar statistics. Up to the end of October there were 47 Life Skills graduates, 3 Graduation Ceremonies, 141 Life Skills modules taught, 19 water baptisms, 212 chapel services, 34,040 beds occupied (114 men per night), 104,880 meals served, and over 300 professional counseling sessions. But statistics do not have a face and they do not get hungry or cold at night. The statistics can not measure or reflect the joy of seeing a father reunited with his family or a son welcomed back into his home. Success has many faces for some the journey to a life free of addictive behaviors is a long journey with several twists and turns, for others it is a quick return to a world of sanity and order, for most it is somewhere in between the two. But I do know this, nobody makes it alone. We all need the help and the care and concern of others on the path to wellness and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the solution by offering to do our part to make a difference in Calgary through the Dream Centre. Thanks for being a part of making a difference in our residents and their families’ lives through your support.

Pictured above are
the graduates from our Personal Life Management (PLM) modules
which began in September of this year and culminated with their
graduation on November 22, 2006. The PLM Modules focuses on
equipping the participants in dealing with the common challenges
that life throws at all of us. The residents learn problem solving
behaviors and their practical application in the management
of their personal affairs. From this juncture the residents
have several choices. They may:
choose to continue with the next group of modules which deal
with Personal Life Development (PLD) as well as Career Skills
and Counseling
or, if they so desire the graduates are welcome to remain with
the Calgary Dream Centre in the capacity of a “Transitional
Resident” that is actively employed and moving towards
their reintegration back into society as a productive and contributing
member.
Congratulations to our graduates for their diligence and hard
work in their pursuit of Life Change!

Our 2nd Annual Mother’s Day Buffet a success!
Our hospitality team, which included residents, staff and volunteers,
graciously hosted over 240 guests at the Dream Centre’s
2nd Annual Mother’s Day Buffet on May 14th.
Our chefs, Bill and Lyle served a delectable buffet which included
dressed salmon, turkey, and glazed ham. And if that wasn’t
enough…the dessert spread boasted Chef Lyle’s famous
apple pie with graham cracker crust, squares and fruit trays.
Guests were greeted by Marlies, one of our valued volunteers
and a hair stylist in our Destiny Design Hair Studio located on
the Dream Centre’s main level. Mom’s were presented
with chocolate covered strawberries and a gift, a very special
limited edition bookmark which featured the true story of a Dream
Centre resident, whose Mom’s prayers were significant in
bringing him out of a very dark time.
Tyrone, our Education Coordinator noted, “I was really
proud of the guys and the way that they presented themselves from
greeting at the door, to being escorted to our table, to service
at the buffet and clean up. Everyone presented themselves in a
professional way and I felt honoured to be a part of the Dream
Centre Team.”
The Sunday Buffet has been a weekly event since Spring 2005.
Join us on May 28th from 11 am to 2:30 pm when the Calgary Dream
Centre Sunday Buffet resumes.
Family Day
On Family Day, February 20th, the Olympic Oval teemed with excitement
as the 5,000 plus crowd, enjoyed an afternoon of activities, public
skating and a chance to support local charities and amateur sports.
Papa John’s Pizza graciously donated pizza to be sold as a fundraiser
to The Calgary Dream Centre and the Olympic Oval Cycling Club.
It was a great opportunity for our volunteers, many of whom were
CDC residents, to make new friends, learn to work as a team and
attempt some serious pizza sampling!
We would like to gratefully acknowledge our Volunteers and our
Event Sponsors, Shine 88.9 FM, Papa John’s Pizza and the Olympic
Oval for a fantastic event! Click here to view a slideshow from this event.
