About the Calgary Dream Centre The Calgary Dream Centre is a refurbished hotel on Macleod Trail, it has been in operation for nearly seven years and it is supportive housing for men who are coming off the streets or other unhealthy living arrangements and need a place to get back on their feet.
We have around 125 men living in our facility. When the men come into the facility they start an Intensive Case Management process. First they attend a group goal setting meeting, following that they have one on one meetings where they make a detailed plan, with steps for them to complete their goals. They even set a tentative departure date for when they will be ready to move on. Also decided when they first arrive is what Stream they will be in, there are A, B and C Streams.
All men are provided with three meals a day, clean, comfortable, shared accommodation and clothes or other things they may require. As well they all have access to AA meetings, group therapy sessions, and counsellors and case managers.
Approximately 25 of them are in the A Stream, which means that they live here for free and take the 28 day addiction recovery program, life skills, and relapse prevention. They do chores everyday to contribute to our operations. They are in a three month program and upon graduation they will either move back into society or transfer to our B Stream.
The B Stream is for men who are not in the A Stream but are not ready for the freedom of the C Stream. They are working and paying rent, but have a few more restrictions like different curfews and mandatory AA meetings. All restrictions are based on each individual person and what will help them gain strength and stability.
The C Stream is for men who have jobs and are ready to get their lives back. The Dream Centre gives them an opportunity to save money in a supportive, safe, stress free environment and work towards the next step of moving on to independent living.
We are a zero tolerance facility, no drugs, alcohol, pornography or gambling and we have the ability to test men for substances right here in the building.
The Calgary Dream Centre is a part of the city’s Ten Year Plan to Eradicate Homelessness. With our innovated structured living we have had great success helping many men rebuild their lives and move back into Calgary as healthy productive members of our society.
The Programs
